The Span America PressureGuard APM2 Alternating Pressure/Lateral Rotation Mattress offers two distinct therapy modes at the flip of a switch. You can change instantly and easily from alternating pressure to basic lateral rotation with a single, recessed toggle switch without disconnecting or exchanging air lines. The PressureGuard APM2 provides twice the flexibility and twice the value with enhanced cover and control unit features.

The PressureGuard APM2 Alternating Pressure/Lateral Rotation Mattress has a digital control unit that gently shifts the patient’s weight in 10-minute cycles without sharp pressure drop-offs. The APM2 therapeutic mattress can change instantly and easily from alternating pressure to basic lateral rotation with a single, recessed toggle switch. No disconnecting or exchanging of air lines is needed and the audible alarm can be engaged to alert caregivers to low pressure status.
The APM2 inflation system consists of four urethane air cylinders in standard models that run head to foot underneath the body and the foam topper. These cylinders perform the alternating pressure therapy and the lateral rotation therapy in the APM2 models. Cylinders inflate and deflate in a fixed 10-minute cycle. The cycles and inflation levels are designed to provide and maintain low interface pressures throughout the mattress and to redistribute peak interface pressure points during the alternating cycle.
The APM2 Digital Multi-function Control Unit is lightweight and quiet. It shifts the patient’s weight in 10-minute cycles. The easy-to-use, white multi-functional control unit provides simple, indexed comfort adjustment and a selectable audible alarm. It is used to program the mattress for lateral rotation or alternating pressure therapy as desired. A timed (20 minute) “Auto Firm” mode facilitates caregiving activities such as transfers, ADLs and CPR and then returns to its previously selected mode.
The Shear Transfer Zones® cover works with the control unit to provide immersion, envelopment, shear reduction, treatment flexibility and comfort. The cover’s enhanced features include the unique design of the anti-microbial bi-directional stretch cover made with Span’s superior LifeSpan® fabric. The Shear Transfer Zones cover design prevents heels, sacrum, and scapula from digging into the top surface of the mattress. After the head of the bed is raised, the patient can glide back to the original position without risk of friction or shear injury. The cover is bacteriostatic, fire-, fluid- and tear-resistant, cleanable, and replaceable.
The exclusive APM2 Geo-Matt style foam topper is a high density, medical grade foam. Its unique geometric design consists of over 800 individual cells, each of which acts individually to redistribute pressure and reduce shear to underlying tissues. It also promotes a healthy microclimate by reducing heat and moisture buildup on the skin. The foam topper is 2″ in height and includes the unique HeelSlope feature, designed to further reduce pressure for the sensitive heel area.
The APM2 safety edge bolster directs the patient towards the center of the mattress to help prevent falling out of bed. It consists of a firm 2-part foam bolster whose inner edge contours under pressure to direct the patient towards the center of the mattress. This adds to patient stability in sitting and lying down and helps prevent falls and entrapment between the side rail and the mattress.
